My Spiritual Belief
My belief system is pretty simple. There is a benevolent force in the universe and there are human beings who live here on earth.
God is a common name used to describe this force.
Other names include the Holy Spirit, Jesus, Mohammed, and other avatars that have been sent to help God communicate with us in our own language. An avatar is a teacher sent by God to help us using what we call grace. (Link to Wikipedia description) Every generation has one. Jesus is probably the most famous one. He has even been described as the "son" of God even though that decision was made by the first Church conference known as the Euchemical Conference. (Link to Wikipedia description of Ecumenical Council)
Since the formation of Alcoholics Anonymous, it has become popular to give any name you want to God. Names include, "higher power," power greater than yourself, etc. I first discussed this in my article, "The New Trinity." In this article I suggest that we choose a name and concept that makes us happy, serene, and safe without worrying about whether it is "real" or not.
For years, I changed names until ten years ago when I decided to pray about it. I was in the shower and I just said out loud, "Who are you?" To my surprise I got an answer: "My name is Spirit and I am a woman." I realize, of course that God does not have a gender, so I dismissed that. But I did really like the name "Spirit," so I chose that for the name of my God or Higher Power etc.
Watching Spirit work in the world is like watching Picasso paint a picture. It is exciting. The only thing lacking in this metaphor is that Picasso is forever painting. He never stops.
You might ask why God is working with us? In my opinion it is to save his creation. So he has a small band of believers working on global warming and helping us get along so we don't blow each other up. (This particular message has come to us through many avatars, but my favorite is the message of Jesus Christ which is chronicled in the Bible. I read it often and try my best to follow his advice.)
P.S. I write this on April 22, 2016 which just happens to be Earth Day, which is sponsored by a fast growing group of people trying to save the plant. (Link to "earthday.org")
