Decorating the Christmas Tree . . .
I used to buy a tree for Christmas and I insisted on decorating it myself because I wanted it to be perfect. My son and daughter wanted to help but I would not let them. They cried and I kept decorating. You see, it had to be perfect. Not only was I a perfectionist, but I wanted to impress everyone and get attention by having a beautiful tree. This became more important than letting my children help me. They not only wanted to enjoy the fun of decorating, it would have been good for their self-esteem to participate.
The same is true to chores and anything that would make the children feel part of things. Thus a "household" would become a home.
This is covert shaming.
