A lot of times we have an intuitive sense of things. I was told by a therapist friend that I was able to help people without a psychology degree because I had a highly tuned intuition. [Also because I read a lot and audited classes. I could not afford the tuition so I never got a degree. But I got the knowledge.]
Anyway, I first sensed that projection was a part of love addiction when I wrote in my first book, Addiction to Love, that love addicts "only see what they want to see." I intuitively realized that love addicts project and in their case they project positive things on to someone who is anything from inadquate to dangerous.
I remember asking my mom why she married my dad. She said, "He was so cute." So I exist because my mother projected on to my dad and then married him two weeks later.
Of course I recognize that sometimes it works out. I was angry at a woman I sponsored in AA back in 1984 who married a man a week after they met, and they are still together. But the exception does not make the rule. [Another cliche]. Don't you love them.
